My favorite food to take on extended camping trips, especially those on which we hike to the campsites, is
freeze dried food. It’s so light to carry, never spoils, and as long as you have a source of clean, fresh water, you can prepare it anywhere. So if your trip is coming up and you have time to order it, I highly recommend going that route for the bulk of your meals. Here’s a weekend’s worth of camp menu ideas. These recipes, which are linked to in the titles, serve four to six but can be easily adapted to whatever size camping group you have. Bring lots of fresh fruit and vegetable in addition to the ingredients listed for each recipe — it’s important to have some raw food and extra snacks as part of the daily menu for camping.
